Your Health Is Part of the Plan

When we talk about purpose, ambition, and building meaningful careers, we often focus on strategy, execution, and resilience. We celebrate long hours, tight deadlines, and the hustle required to make our dreams a reality. But there's one critical piece of the equation that doesn't get nearly enough attention: your health.

The truth is simple: In order to work well, you have to feel well. And in order to feel well, you have to put good things into your body, your mind, and your life.

Recently, I made one of the most important decisions I've ever made for myself—I underwent a laparoscopic hysterectomy after years of dealing with uterine fibroids. For me, it wasn't just about having surgery. It was about choosing a better quality of life. It was about no longer accepting constant pain, exhaustion, heavy bleeding, and the physical and mental toll that came with them.

Taking time away from work to heal wasn't stepping back from my purpose—it was investing in it.

As leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals, we often convince ourselves that we don't have time for doctor appointments or that we'll address symptoms "after this project" or "once things slow down." The reality is that things rarely slow down on their own. We have to make space for ourselves before our bodies make the decision for us.

That starts with the basics:

  • Schedule your annual wellness exams.

  • Don't ignore symptoms that don't feel right.

  • Ask questions until you understand your options.

  • Seek out credible research and learn from others who have walked a similar path.

  • Advocate for yourself—even when it's uncomfortable.

Your physical health and your mental health are deeply connected. Sometimes feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or constantly fatigued isn't simply the result of a busy schedule. It can be connected to what's happening inside your body.

Get your blood work done. Know your numbers. Address vitamin deficiencies, iron levels, hormone changes, or anything else that may be affecting how you show up each day.

Then nourish yourself intentionally.

Choose foods rich in vitamins and nutrients. Eat lean proteins, colorful vegetables, fruits, healthy fats, and whole grains that fuel your body instead of simply filling it. Stay hydrated. Prioritize quality sleep whenever possible.

And move.

Movement doesn't have to mean spending hours in a gym. It can be a walk around your neighborhood, dancing in your living room, lifting weights, riding a bike, stretching, or playing a sport you love. Every step you take is an investment in your future self.

Success isn't just measured by promotions, businesses launched, or goals achieved. It's also measured by waking up with energy, having the strength to enjoy your family, being present with the people you love, and having the capacity to continue pursuing the work you're passionate about.

At TISM Connect, we believe sustainable success requires a sustainable you.

Your body is the vehicle carrying your purpose. Protect it. Invest in it. Listen to it.

Because your dreams deserve the healthiest version of you—and so do you.
